Promote Peace in D.R. Congo
Petition the U.S. Government to stop the Rwandan Government from encouraging the Congo Conflict

Published March 13,2008

Since the invasion of the Democratic Republic of the Congo by Rwanda in 1996, the Congolese people have not experienced peace. Click here for a brief background on the Congo-Rwanda conflict and how the Rwandan government is contributing to instability in eastern Congo.

Please, act now to promote peace in the D. R. Congo.
To this day, the Rwanda-Congo conflict continues to undermine the peace process between the Congolese government and the many rebel groups that operate in the eastern part of the Congo - particularly the CNDP of Laurent Nkunda whose military support comes from the Rwandan government.  We believe that only political will and diplomacy will bring the two nations to a common ground for peace in the Congo.
Let us join our voices to ask the United States of America to encourage Rwandan President, Paul Kagame to do more for peace in the Congo.

Please sign this petition to the US government from Africa Faith and Justice Network today!

How You Can Help Advocate for a Peaceful Congo
Want to Help?
Wednesday, 21 June 2006

The best way to receive timely updates and alerts about how to be most effective in advocating for a better future for the people of the Congo is to sign up for our eNetwork. But here are some other ideas:

  • Write an editorial to your local newspaper, visit your member of Congress' office, or find some other creative means of building support for the Democratic Republic of the Congo Security, Relief and Democracy Promotion Act currently in the Senate.
  • Hold a fundraiser to support AFJN's advocacy on this issue or the work of humanitarian and development organizations such as Catholic Relief Services working in Congo.
  • Be aware of the origins of your jewelry, especially diamonds, to ensure that they come from a company committed to human rights (check out Amnesty International's page on this for more info).
  • Organize a prayer or include in your prayers the 4 million victims of the war in Congo since 1998.
  • Check out Congo Global Action Coalition 's blogspot for the most up-to-date news analysis and events postings. The coalition also has a website that will soon be launched - check back for details!
  • Visit our further resources page to find other organizations and reports on the issue.
